Gravel Driveway Grading
The main service in St. Andrews: reclaiming shoulder material, cutting potholes and ruts, and re-crowning for drainage.
How our gravel grading process worksServing the RM of St. Andrews
The RM of St. Andrews is mostly rural and mostly gravel. Driveways here are long, they run off River Road, Highway 9 and the grid roads, and they take a real beating from spring runoff and heavy vehicle traffic.
Local overview
A gravel driveway that was topped up a year or two ago and is already rutted again is usually a shape problem rather than a material problem. When a driveway is flat or dished, water sits in the wheel tracks and works the surface apart, and simply adding loose gravel gives the water more material to move around.
Our grading process is well suited to the long gravel driveways common throughout rural Manitoba, and we're candid at the quote about whether you need new material or just a proper crown and cleanup.

How our sealcoating process worksOn the ground
The same vehicles taking the same line, day after day, cut two channels the length of the driveway. Once water sits in those channels the base softens and the ruts deepen fast. Cutting them out and re-crowning is the fix; topping them up isn't.
A gravel driveway should shed water to both sides. Gravel driveways commonly go flat or slightly dished over the years. Restoring the crown is what makes any repair actually last.
Properties near the Red get sustained runoff each spring. The low sections and the road entrance take the worst of it, which is why we prefer to grade here after the ground has firmed up rather than at the first warm week.
On older driveways the shoulders are often grassed over with usable material trapped underneath. Part of grading is pulling that gravel back into the driving surface — material you already own.
