Asphalt driveways are common throughout Winnipeg, although driveway materials and conditions vary significantly by neighbourhood. The city's clay soil and a full freeze-thaw cycle every spring put real pressure on asphalt surfaces, which is why cracking, fading and edge damage are such familiar problems here.
Selkirk is a mixed community for driveway work. In town you'll find asphalt driveways dealing with fading, cracking and ragged edges, while river lots and properties in the surrounding RM are more often gravel, where ruts and potholes are the issue rather than colour.
Stonewall covers two quite different kinds of driveway work. Inside town, driveways tend to be short asphalt runs on quiet residential streets. Outside town, through the RM of Rockwood, long gravel approaches on acreages are common.
East St. Paul is known for large residential lots. Homes often sit well back from the road, and circular or side-entry driveways are common, so square footage adds up quickly compared with a typical city lot.
West St. Paul sits on Winnipeg's northern edge along Main Street and Highway 9, and the driveway mix reflects that. Newer subdivisions tend toward asphalt on relatively young pavement, while the older river lots running toward the Red are longer, often gravel, and sometimes a combination of both.
The RM of St. Andrews is mostly rural and mostly gravel. Driveways here are long, they run off River Road, Highway 9 and the grid roads, and they take a real beating from spring runoff and heavy vehicle traffic.
Lockport driveways are shaped by the river. Properties along River Road and the streets running down to the Red are often narrow, longer than they look, and sloped toward or away from the water, which makes drainage a central consideration when we quote.
