Gravel grading from $525 · Free on-site assessment

Before you buy gravel

You May Not Need More Gravel.

Over time, usable gravel gets pushed into driveway shoulders, potholes and low spots.

Bison Surfaces scarifies and redistributes the material already on your driveway, restores the crown and smooths the driving surface.

Restore your driveway without automatically paying for truckloads of new gravel.

Some driveways have genuinely lost too much material. If new gravel is needed, we tell you during the assessment and quote it separately.

1

Gravel migrates

Traffic and plowing push material into the shoulders and edges.

2

Low spots form

Water collects in the ruts and holes that are left behind.

3

The crown flattens

The surface stops shedding water toward the sides.

4

We put it back

Scarify, redistribute, regrade and pack the existing material.

Common gravel driveway problems

Does Your Driveway Look Like This?

Potholes

Bowls that catch water and get deeper with every vehicle.

Washboarding

Ripples across the surface that rattle the whole vehicle.

Ruts

Worn wheel tracks that channel water down the driveway.

Standing Water

Puddles that sit for days after rain and soften the surface.

Lost Crown

A flat or dished profile that no longer sheds water to the sides.

Gravel Pushed to the Edges

Usable material stranded in the shoulders instead of the driving lane.

What pricing assumes

Pricing assumes adequate usable gravel is already present. New gravel, deep base repairs, major drainage correction, heavily overgrown surfaces and complete driveway reconstruction are not included and are quoted separately.

Final pricing depends on driveway size, condition, access, travel distance, vegetation and the amount of usable gravel currently present. Photos may be requested before confirming your quote.

Questions

Gravel Driveway Grading FAQ

Can potholes be fixed by grading?+

Yes — minor and moderate potholes are typically corrected during grading. We scarify the surface, fill the low spots with the loosened material and pack it back down. Very deep holes caused by a failing base may need base repair, which is quoted separately.

Do I need new gravel?+

Often not. Most driveways still have enough usable gravel, it has just migrated into the shoulders and low spots. During your assessment we tell you honestly whether the material on site is enough — if additional gravel is genuinely needed, we say so and quote it separately.

How often should a gravel driveway be graded?+

Most Manitoba properties benefit from grading once a year, usually after spring thaw. Driveways with heavy traffic, long private roads or steep sections may want a second visit later in the season.

Can you fix washboarding?+

Yes. Washboarding is corrected by scarifying through the ripples, redistributing the loosened gravel and packing the surface flat again. It will gradually return with traffic, which is why annual grading is recommended.

Can grading improve drainage?+

Grading improves surface drainage by restoring the crown or cross-slope so water runs off instead of pooling. It is not a substitute for major drainage correction — ditching, culverts or base rebuilding are separate work and are quoted on their own.

How long does driveway grading take?+

Most residential gravel driveways are completed in a single visit, typically 3–6 hours depending on size, condition and access.

Can you grade cottage driveways?+

Yes. We regularly service acreages, rural homes and cottage properties throughout the Interlake and lake communities. Remote or cottage-area mobilization is quoted by location.
